This technique apparently allows a player to take an item from inside a locked display case without having to pick its lock open with lockpicks.
Look directly at an item through the display glass, then press X to activate the lockpick mini-game. Don’t attempt to play the mini-game and pick the lock, just press Circle to exit the lock picking screen, then immediately press X again. If this is timed and executed correctly, you should be able to take the item from within the display case despite not having picked the lock and opened the case.
One example of the application of this technique is on the Elven Sword in the display case in Jarl Balgruuf’s bed chamber in Dragonsreach, in the city of Whiterun. It has a master skill level lock, but by doing this people have obtained it without picking the lock.
Be advised that taking items from a display case using this technique will, in most cases, be considered stealing by the game, so don’t let any NPCs see you doing it. You will probably also have to find a fence if you want to sell any of the items you acquire.
Any questions or problems, comment below or in the forums and I, one of my team, or another user will hopefully be able to assist you.
NOTE: I cannot guarantee that this will still work following the introduction of Patch 1.4 in the coming weeks.
